Decison: Young Investigator Award 2007 The following proposals have been received in response to the second call.
- Perturbing expression of the novel obesity gene Fto in the brain using AAV mediated transfer of Fto cDNA and siRNA by Drs Eduard Ayuso (UAB) & Dr Loraine Tung (UCAM)
- Understanding IL-6 effect on wound healing in diabetes by Drs. Ferdinando Giacco (UNAP) & Christian Andersson (UGOT)
- Regulation of PED/PEA-15 by SIRT1 in neurons by Drs. Alessia P.M. Barbagallo (UNAP) & Soumya Rasouri (CERBM)
All of the proposals have been carefully examined and evaluated for their scientific and communication quality, novelty in the context of the host laboratories, added value in term of technological and know-how transfer between the host laboratories and level of interaction between the proponents. The level of translational research was also identified as a further major criterion of merit in the evaluation of the human and clinical studies.
All of the proposals were found to be scientifically excellent and sound in term of actual project planning.
Based on these considerations, three awards of 15,000 Euros each have been established for 2007 and will be accounted in the coming financial report. The awardees and their mentors will be officially notified by October 30, 2007. The awards will be splitted in equal parts between the participating Instituions. and money transfer immediately arranged to enable prompt start of the projects. Project follow-up with formal presentation is anticipated at the next General Assembly Meeting in October 2008. Decision in PDF
- Young Investigator Award - Programme – 2007 edition
On April 2007, the NoE Steering Committee has decided to further support the involvement of young investigators in Eugene2 joint research activities.
At least 3 awards, 15.000 euro each, will be made available to young investigators affiliated to the consortium institutions and proposing collaborative research projects.
The following two types of proposals will be considered
1. basic research projects in the field of molecular mechanisms and post-genomics of type 2 diabetes; 2. human and clinical studies on type 2 diabetes jointly proposed by investigators with clinical and basic science background.
All proposals will be competitively evaluated for their scientific and communication quality, novelty in the context of the host laboratories, added value in term of technological and know-how transfer between the host laboratories and level of interaction between the proponents. The level of translational research will represent a further major criterion of merit in the evaluation of the human and clinical studies.
The application should include a description of the scientific project, a detailed outline of the significance of the intra-network cooperation for the accomplishment of the proposed work and budget justification. The application must not exceed 3 page (excluding references).
The deadline for submitting your complete application is October 17, 2007.
Applications must be e-mailed to Prof. Francesco Beguinot (beguino@unina.it) no later than Oct. 17, 17.00.
The Awards will be announced at the next EUGENE2 Training Course, in Stockholm.
Please, make this information circulating at your Institution.
-------------------------------------------------------------- Decision: EUGENE2 Young Investigator Project Award 2006 The following five proposals have been received in response to the first call.
- Effect of viral-mediated modulation of bile acid metabolism on the onset of type II diabetes and metabolic sindrome by Drs. C. Thomas (IGBMC, Strasburg) and E. Ayuso (CBATEG, Barcelona);
- Molecular mechanisms underlying the inhibition of adipogenesis by cytokines by Drs. Ann Hammarstedt (Goteborg University) and Wo-Shing Au (Cambridge University);
- The role of PED/PEA-15 in adipocyte development and insulin sensitivity by Drs. R. Teperino (University of Naples) and Wo-Shing Au University of Cambridge;
- Understanding adiponectin action in skeletal muscle by Drs. Sergio Munoz (CBATEG) and Angela Cassese (University of Naples);
- Fighting diabetes with a laser sword by Drs. T. Drejia (Dife) and Z. Jovanovic (University of Cambridge).
All of the proposals have been carefully examined and evaluated for their scientific and communication quality, novelty in the context of the host laboratories, added value in term of technological and know-how transfer between the host laboratories and level of interaction between the proponents. All were found to be scientifically excellent and sound in term of actual project planning. However, this year, the decision was made to fund proposals number 2, 3, 4 and 5. Two concerns led to the decision of not funding proposal n.1. Firstly, it is felt that it represents part of a larger an more costly program and not a real start-up project conceived by the two proponent investigators. Secondly, it was found not in the main focus of the EUGENE2 program.
Based on this decision, four awards of 12,000 Euros each have been established for 2006 and will be accounted in the coming financial report. The awardees and their mentors will be officially notified by November 7. The awards will be splitted in equal parts between the participating Instituions. and money transfer immediately arranged to enable prompt start of the projects. Project follow-up with formal presentation is anticipated at the next General Assembly Meeting in October 2007.
