THE WORK IN THIS PROJECT IS SUPPORTED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY'S SIXTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME FOR RESEARCH, PRIORITY 1 "LIFE SCIENCES, GENOMICS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR HEALTH", CONTRACT NO. LSHM-CT-2004-512013

EUGENE2 is an EC-funded network of top European laboratories focusing on the causes and consequences of type 2 diabetes. The research laboratories have complementary expertise in different fields of clinical and molecular science. This is required in order to make progress in our understanding of as complicated a disease as type 2 diabetes. EUGENE2 is an inter-European collaborative network involving research laboratories from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Spain.

Collaboration with the European biotechnology industry is also established in order to make a rapid translation from research discovery to clinical therapy. EUGENE2 provides the necessary research infrastructure and critical scientific mass to identify new candidate genes from type 2 diabetes and to test their function in cell and animal models.

An important aspect of EUGENE2 is to further expand on our database of individuals with a genetic (familiar) predisposition for type 2 diabetes.

If you are interested in obtaining further information about EUGENE2, or willing to participate in our clinical trials, please contact the co-ordinator (Ulf Smith) or directly with the participating centers (see Contact Information).
